Monthly Associates Gathering - October!

We had a very colourful MAG this month as the Kitchen Department hosted an Arabian themed gathering with a touch of Deepavali and a truly Malaysian favourite! As always, the games were exciting and staying true to their passion, the Kitchen Department organised a Teh Tarik contest! This was followed by a Kolam making competition. A mouth watering Middle Eastern lunch was prepared for associates and a birthday cake was served for October babies!

Healthy Achievers visit to Universal Studios

In appreciation of our associates who have worked without taking medical leave for the past 12 months, the Management had rewarded  the “Healthy” associates to  a special visit to Universal Studios in Sentosa, Singapore.

The HR department organized this fun filled one  day trip by coach to the theme park for 19 of the 33 associates all the way to the Lion City on the 14 October 2011. This trip was organized to recognize these associates for their hard work, dedication and commitment to Melia KL for 2010.  

This has been the 1st time Melia KL has rewarded a group of associates of all expenses paid trip to a theme park in the neighbouring country and hopefully it should motivate the rest to work with passion and dedication to Melia KL.

Herb Garden Revitalisation


They say "The early bird catches the worm" but at Melia Kuala Lumpur, the early birds tend to the herb garden! A group of Head of Departments and associates led by Director of Operations, Mr. Adrian Prado, got up early in the morning to pull out the weeds and revitalise the soil of our herb garden! Soon, they will replant new herbs as part of our goal to go green! Great work everyone!

Deepavali Cheer!



To say it was an exciting day at Melia Kuala Lumpur would be an understatement! Today we organised a Deepavali Cheer event as part of our CSR initiatives and it was out of this world!
The Deepavali Cheer event was organised together with Minnal FM (92.3FM) for the underprivileged students of the Kinrara Tamil School in Puchong. This was the second time that Melia Kuala Lumpur and Minnal FM joined hands to organise a Deepavali charity event. 
The event began with a traditional Kolam lighting ceremony followed by a   a sumptuous lunch courtesy of Melia Kuala Lumpur. Minnal FM brought great entertainment, with two groups of dancers and a host of fun games for the children. Melia's own Ms. Shalina and Chef Huzaidy also entertained the audience with their rendition of Kuch Kuch Ho Ta Hai!
Minnal FM also gave brand new Deepavali clothes to the children while Melia Kuala Lumpur's Director of Operations, Mr. Adrian Prado gave each child an 'Ang Pao'. The day ended on a high as the dance floor opened and everyone got their groove on!

A Spanish Experience!


Students from the German International School were given a Spanish experience at the Melia Kuala Lumpur. Director of Operations, Senor Adrian Prado and Revenue Manager, Senior Javier Ortega gave the students a presentation on the history, architecture, sports, culture and cuisine of Sunny Spain! The presentation was followed by a sumptuous lunch prepared by Chef Ameran Abu Hassan. Chef Ameran conducted a cooking demo where he prepared Spain's famous Paella de Marisco & Non-alcoholic Sangria!

A Birthday and a VIP Guest


It was a special day at Melia Kuala Lumpur as we celebrated the birthday of our artist and welcomed a VIP to stay at the Executive Suite. 


Mr. Wahid celebrated his birthday with a delicious cake and a present from Marcom Manager Mr. Terry! 


Our VIP was our very own Mr. Khairul Izhar bin Muhamad Fadzil of the El Patio Cafe Restaurant who won the Employee of the Month Award. After being chauffeured to the hotel, Mr. Khairul  and his family were welcomed by Director of Operations, Mr. Adrian Prado and Assistant Front Office Manager, Mr. Navin Silvaraju.

Doing Melia Proud!


Recently, Melia Kuala Lumpur took part in Culinaire Malaysia 2011, the regions largest culinary competition. In this year's Culinaire Malaysia, Melia Kuala Lumpur participated in 6 categories with 5 associates representing us. The categories were

i)   1 Malaysia Table Setting
ii)   Go Green Table Setting
iii)  Cocktail
iv) Meat & Poultry Dish
v)  Seafood Dish
vi) Plate Dishes

The good news is that each associate who competed won a medal!

Mr. Nur Shakirin and Mr. Mugilan won gold, Mr. Hariprasaad and Mr. Izie won bronze, while Chef Huzaidy won a bronze for the Seafood Dish category and a diploma for the Meat & Poultry Dish category.

The 4th Annual Melia Kuala Lumpur Bowling Tournament


It was a day of strikes and spares, filled with moments of anxiety, but in the end everyone left in high spirits at the 4th Annual Melia Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Bowling Tournament 2011. The contest is organized by the Melia Kuala Lumpur Sports and Recreation Club to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst hoteliers. This year, 29 teams competed for the coveted Challenger’s trophy which was won by the Mandarin Oriental.
